Why a playground for children with disabilities?
Although many children’s playgrounds exist throughout the Harrisburg area, very few are disability accessible. Adventure Zone is a playground for ALL children.
How much will the playground cost?
$605,000 is budgeted for the playground area which will include a large picnic pavilion and public restrooms. The playground itself is about 160 by 180 feet. A percentage of these funds are also set aside for playground maintenance.
Where will the playground be built?
Adventure Zone Playground will be located in Adventure Park on 1775 Lambs Gap Road, Mechanicsburg.
When will the playground be built?
Adventure Zone will be constructed by community volunteers May 13th -18th 2008. 1500 volunteers will be needed to complete the week-long construction process.
What kinds of donations/volunteers are needed?
Financial contributions
Many kinds of tools (both hand and power), tarps, tents & awnings, wheelbarrows, stepladders, etc.
Food for the volunteers
Heavy equipment

Stone, concrete, and block

What is The Foundation for Enhancing Communities?
The Foundation for Enhancing Communities is one of the oldest non-profit foundations in the country. The Foundation provides administrative management services, grants and scholarships to various community enhancing organizations, individuals, businesses, and corporations. How can I make an in-kind donation?
Contact the playground steering committee through either Lori Cartmill, or Jim Czupil. Charitable receipts will be given for all in-kind donations.
Can anyone help build the playground?
Yes! We will need hundreds of volunteers during build week and many leading up to build week as well. You do not need to have building skills to help. There will be jobs for everyone. Please see the volunteer area of our website.
Who is guiding the project?
Leathers Associates is a 35 year old playground design/build company. The company has worked with dozens of community organizations to build nearly 2,000 playgrounds throughout the United States.
